I haven't seen anything in the 2001 manual either, and was wondering if Honda had approached the problem in subsequent publications of which I was unaware. Although the car runs well, I have been concerned regarding oil consumption, and have used Mobil I since my first change at approximately 3000 miles. Now finally at 12000 perhaps patience is paying some dividends as consumption is leveling off. Thanks!

I stand corrected. I just read my manual and it says about synthetic oil:

"You may use synthetic motor oil if it meets the same requirements given for conventional motor oil: energy conserving, a service classification of SJ, and the proper weight as shown on the chart. When using synthetic oil, you must follow the oil and filter chang intervals given in the maintenance schedule".

However, I do know that Honda sent out a TSB on making sure the oil level is frequently checked and not to change to synthetic oil until 10K miles. That change is somewhere on this site.

for what its worth, my dealer wouldnt put synthetic in my car until 10k miles...
