Wheel Studs Keep Breaking Off
Hi everyone !
I wanted to share my experience here so maybe some people will find this info useful. Possibly checking that the rims are installed properly might be added to the list of things to check after you buy your used S2000.
I Bought my 2002 S2000 a few months ago and after a few days I noticed that two wheel studs from the front left wheel were broken.
I took it to Wheel Works and $140 and 2 hours later that was fixed.
The other day I was coating the wheel wells with QuietCar and when I installed the front right wheel another two wheel studs broke off. I was thinking "What the heck is happening ?".
I took it to another Wheel Works and the technician noted that the front wheels don't fit properly on the front hub.
It turns out that the previous shop that installed the rear tires installed them on the front rims and installed the rear rims to the front.
$330 dollars later both front wheels have new studs and the rims and tires are installed properly.
I guess I was lucky that the technician caught this and I didn't get killed while driving this car.

Dont go to wheel works.
You have to be real stupid to get a rear wheel on the front of the car, and not feel something is not right when tightening the lugs.
The front wheels fit the rear of the car for flat tire situations.

Why ? Do they have a bad reputation ?
Too late now. They already did the wheel stud replacement.
I am actually grateful to the technician of the second Wheel Works that he caught that the wheels weren't seated properly.
I guess I was lucky since the first one didn't catch that nor the initial check before I bought the car or the alignment guys when I got it done.
You'll be surprised what the right combination of force and ignorance can do ;-) ....
On a different note I think that Honda should have made a design so the rear wheel will not fit on the front hub no matter what if that was their original intent. This way they kinda' fit and you get stupid guys like that one that replaced the rear tires to install the wrong wheels on the wrong hubs.
Yes. I just read about that the other day.

Technically, its the technicians job to make sure the rims seat flush against the hub. What if there was a pebble on the rim/hub mounting surface? Thats just asking for a rim to go flying off while driving. I actually had a commercial van (13 passenger tour van) drop a front rim right in front of me. The tire went bouncing around almost hit my car and a few others... The van itself dropped, spray of sparks everywhere, somehow the guy kept control of the van ... it was pretty jaw dropping.

Wheel Works were ok.
They figured out that the wheels were not properly installed (the second shop that I took it to actually).
I bought the car with the wheels installed that way from the previous owner about two months ago.
I also read a thread a while ago where the guy mentioned that he bought a S2000 and the wheel came off while he was driving it. I wonder if it might have been the same situation ....
