This is the worst thread I have read in this forum. None of you are listening. He is getting wheelhop while cornering. It is a niche designed enthusiast car, the car was engineered to go fast. A few of you need to seriously think about getting a Ford Windstar.

I would concentrate on suspension components like tie-rods and bushings.
And alignment, to see how much toe there is to start with.
Tire pressure?
Wheel bearings?

As they say in the article:
limit the motion of the wheel with respect to the chassis

OP here again. Thanks to all those who 'get it'. To everyone else, can you honestly tell me you've never encountered wheelspin in your S? Ever?

Back on topic. The rear (and front) suspension was recently checked when car was aligned. So ball joints, tie rods etc SHOULD all be good. I will check myself. Alignment printout shown. It had too much rear toe before. Wheel hop same before and after alignment.

Tires are same front and rear, Kuhmo Ecsta LE sport. Stock sizes on stock wheels. Rear tires are getting close to wear bars now, but they were in good shape when I got the car a year ago. Wheel hop has not changed since I've had it.

^Looks like the best info is so far is in this link.

And honestly my s does not get wheelspin like that your talking burning rubber right? I can get chirps hitting second gear too hard.
I would have to try real hard to get the tires to do a burnout maybe if I had more hp or bad traction. My tires grip pretty good seemed glued to road for the most part.

I think there was a missunderstanding from the start of this topic I appologize.

Let us know what you find I am now curious good luck.

Asking the obvious: (I have a name to uphold)

OP: you do have the kind of wheel hop they describe in the link?
You're sure both wheels hop?

What if you increase the tire pressure?
Even if the pressure is ok now, just put in 30-40% extra and test.

When you slide your hand over the tire thread, do you feel a difference CW and CCW?
IOW: is the profile worn like a saw?

Swap wheels L/R?

Does it hop when you spin the wheels when its raining?

What tire sizes are we talking about?

Stock AP2 tire size. Yes, wheel hop occurs in rain as well. In fact, that is when I experience it the most, since that low traction situation is when most likely to get wheelspin.

I am familiar with the tire scalloping to which you refer, do not feel that on my S tires.

I am sure both tires are spinning, otherwise I'd be researching why my torsen diff isn't working.

That link was very helpful, thanks. Lots of good info in there.

BTW, I'm quite certain I'm not experiencing something else and mistaking it for wheel hop. I've been driving rwd vehicles for over 40 years, and am familiar with wheel hop.

The link mentioned change in rear toe, and the traction/loss of traction that subsequently occurs as cause of wheel hop. Link mentions its most commonly suspension bushings, but also possible (but far less likely) rear shocks. I will check both, along with diff mounts, etc.

It would be nice if you could borrow a set of rear wheels/tires and see if that made a differance.

^^ good suggestion as well. see if you can switch out the rears and see if that eliminates it before going to tear down the rear suspension.
