It sounds like those of us who spend more time cruising should be more agressive with the use of fuel additives?

I agree with Windscreen that the deposits in those pics look perfectly normal - and also that it is almost never an issue with exhaust valves.

As to whose link it is, I think both Windscreen and I knew the answer without needing a link, and both of us went to Google to find one to demonstrate the knowledge to others. Modifry needed some explanation of the "intake valve deposits can mess up driveability" claim.

But if Windscreen owns the rights to the 1st link, then I offer all props and apologies. Forgive me, or I am slashing my wrists and soaking in a hot tub.
I just store URL's in a file so I do not constantly have to rewrite answers, and for the occasional irritating "yeah, says who?" troll.

At the risk of becoming Flame Bait, let me ask this:

How about the STP stuff you see at your neighborhood supermarket?
Useful? Useless? Avoid like the plague?

RR,

Would you use a regular Techron bottle WITH Chevron Supreme?

I only spent time investigating players - not also rans. Only so much time to devote - ya know? I have to use some connections at times to get the inside scoop, and I do not like to waste my markers.

I don't know about STP - but you get what you pay for - Gumout has about 10 different versions of its el cheapo cleaners, and as I recall, they were all kerosene or kerosene+petro distillates. Since STP has gone el cheapo, I would assume they are competitive nothing-burgers as well.

RR - Thanks for the additional info. I now realize it's a little more complicated than simple vapor absorption, so I'll quit trying to analyze it and just deal with it. There will soon be a few bottles of Techron on the shelf next to the oil filters.

And I try to be "Gentlemanly" because my true nature is to be abrupt and to the point, and when combined with my untempered sarcasm I sometimes come across as a complete a-hole. Which I'm not, since I never went to college.

(that was a joke).
