10W60!!??? Wonder how much it would drink if it used 10W30? So ............ why do people think it's such a great car? It's a pity that German engineers don't have hari kari to fall back on, huh?

At 15,000 miles, I will be going with mobil1 synthetic at 5000 mile intervals.

That's my plan.

You could go longer intervals but due to the high performance nature of this engine, I'm inclined to keep to the "regular" interval. I'm always concerned about sludge build-up. However, your analysis will tell you how things will be going.

I would check with some of the other FI owners, but I don't think a SC would warrant going to synthetic oil early.

I may be one of the more anal people on this board, but with some of the engine problems that people have seen, I have decided to send off an oil sample from every change to Blackstone Labs for analysis. The reports have been interesting. I first changed the oil at around 3,200 miles because I was getting ready to go to a track event. The second time was around 5,500 miles which had the track miles on it, the third time was around 8500 miles, and this last time was at around 11,500. I had been using Valvoline 10W30, as I wanted to make sure that the engine was fully broken in. According to the reports, the engine oil sample at 8500 miles showed that the engine was pretty much "broken-in". Another interesting thing was that the oil viscosity was low for a 10W30 after relatively short oil change intervals. When I hit 11,500 miles, I switched to Mobil 1 and will continue my analysis until I find a proper change interval. My first change will be around 4,000 miles with the Mobile 1.

Oh yeah - I use an OEM filter at every change.

The dino oil's low viscosity after a relatively short use is one of the main reasons I am planning to switch to synthetic at my next oil change.
