What is your idle speed when you first start
Mine is close to 2K for the fist 45 seconds and them drops to about 1500 and finally down to 850 or 900. Is this normal?

Depends on how cold it is. I went out to my car when it was near ~15F with windchill, the car first started idling at almost 3k rpms. I think the ECU decides how high the idle is depending on temps

Ditto...
I've actually seen worse behavior from my '93 RX7 where it wanted to rev the engine to 3K RPM on initial start in the morning. I was told that this was to quickly warm up the pre-cat... but at the cost of engine??? We figured ways around this but it was quite annoying.

When cold, my F20C2 gets up to 2520 rpm... and I absolutly HATE it.
2520 rpm = 42 rpm per second!
Imagine someone waking you up, shouting in your ear : GO GO GO!
And why did Honda decide to do this?
My old Civic & Accord never did this.
It may be good for the enviroment...
Anyway..
It is one of the reasons I am using a high quality syn oil, with a 0W-XX viscosity.
(0W-40 now, changing to 0W-30 within some time)
I want my oil to flow during those first few seconds, and flow fast, to get where it needs to go.
If a 0W-XX oil will get the oil flow (and pressure) up only 1/3 of a second faster (and in cold temps that might be the case IMO) you have the proper lubrication a full 14 revolutions quicker after a cold start.
Worth it in my humble opinion.
