the BG is 75W80 gl-4. You think that's fine to run straight?

or should I go with what I was thinking before and about ~1.4q of BG and .45q of http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=43&pcid=8 ?

few local guys have had problems running redline mtl & mt 90 in there gboxes after a few gearbox strip downs they found with extended use of redline there syncros were being glazed therefore causing damage in the long run. I ran redline for a while but after hearing horror stories from local honda guys that track there cars I decided to switch to amsoil mtf 5w30 to be safe, which is compatible with honda mtf infact amsoil state it can replace honda mtf. so far its shifting better than redline and honda mtf and ive put on a few thousand kms.

I'm curious about the wide disparity in viscosity between the Redline MT90 (75W-90) or MTL (70W-80) vs the Honda MTF (30W). Wonder why some of you are running such thicker lubes in your trannies when Honda specs 30W?

I just replaced mine with MTF; but this thread got me wondering for next time.

motor oil VS gear oil viscosities are not directly comparable because the viscosity rating system for motor oil is different for gear oil

Hmmm... Thought about the Redline MT-90 as well, did a great job in my Civic VTI but new to the S2K tranny.

At about 25k I switched to MT90 and ran it for about 175k+ miles in my AP1 trans. My original trans was still fine but I opted for an AP2 trans when I did my motor swap. MT90 worked great for me for a very long time.

After listening to a friend of mine tell me how great the Amsoil synth MTF was I decided to try it in my new AP2 trans and so far so good. Shifts are very smooth, but we'll see how long it lasts.

I run amsoil mt-90 50:50 with Amsoil mtl. The Amsoil is almost a winter weight, the Mt-90 is definitely summer wt. I wanted to see if I could get the good shear resistance from both and a mid-wt blend, works fine, but I'll test it after 10k miles.

I wonder what this Aus was talking about glazing, coating the carbon?

I run straight Redline MTL in mine. I just switched from Redline MT90 because I found I could sometimes beat the synchros in second gear. I think the 90 was a combination of too slick and too thick. I love the MTL and haven't had a missed shift in over a month.
