Default What tool set do you have?

What tool set do you have to fix up minor stuff on your S? (provided that you aren't a hardcore mechanic)

I like Metrinch a lot, but it's so hard to find them nowadays (I lost my set of Metrinch ...). Are there other manufacturers that make similar wrenches? (i.e. ones that grab the walls, not the corners), yet don't cost ridiculous amount like Snap-on and those real professional sets? (not saying those aren't good ... I saw the Snap-on set ... that's super high quality)

I bought a set of Stanley tools from Amazon, and it stripped the hell outta my bolts on the seats when I was changing them to seat locks ... wasn't impressed ...

Thanks.

i can complain about craftsman. but thats another story.

if youre looking for wrenches that grabs the sides, not the corners and dont carry the price of top of the line products then try S*K sockets. cant remember the name of them but they have a series that grabs the sides similar to metrinches.

mostly Kobalt from Lowes, some Gearwrench specialty wrenches and a some SAE Craftsman stuff. you can't beat Sears Craftsman for price and availability. Snap on and MAC are great but way too pricey for the average DIY'er.

i even have a inexpensive set of taskforce from Lowes that i use for traveling. it came with nice blow molded case that keeps everything in its right place. cost all of $30 bucks.

I have a Metrinch spanner and socket set and really like them, but they do have one major drawback. Because of the way they hold they are effectively 6 point sockets. You have to have at least 60 degrees of freedom or they are useless.

So I have a set of conventional spanners and sockets as well.

Plus an assorted collection of tools I have bought in dribs and drabs as needed.

One of my other favourites are racheting spanners. I have flat and angled versions.

And a recent addition is an air compressor and various tools. The air socket driver is awesome if you have a lot of bolts to do.

craftsman, they always have most things in stock, and if it breaks, just bring it in, and you get a brand new one. No questions asked. Trust me i've snapped about 3 breaker bars, and a 1/2 inch ratchet drive. I just walk in and as long as the tool says craftsman its all gravy.
