Hey everyone,
I just purchased my s2000 and I am experiencing a startup noise. I thought that it was coming from the timing chain tensioner so I replaced it. It turned out not to be the problem. Im not sure if it is starter grind or what. Please visit the link and let me know what you think:

the noise only occurs when the car is cold and only lasts for about 1-2 seconds after startup. It sounds like grinding gears.

that is definitely the secondary air pump, sounds like it might be on its way out too. It shouldnt be that loud. My pump is that loud but the housing is literally burnt on mine so the air escapes to the atmosphere instead of the intake as it is intended. It is a problem on some AP1's

Nothing to be overly concerned with except for a CEL once in a while.

BTW the pump costs 600 new from the dealer so...

I think the camera being over the engine bay is exagerating the air pump noise. The sound im talking about is at approximately 8 seconds to 10 seconds on the video.

I have the same sound. Do a search for the 'starter bendix' or for 'starter over run'. Seems fairly common and most people seem to confuse it with the TCT.

I have the same symptoms as well, only happens on the first cold start. Usually won't happen on warmer days, even if I start the car for the first time in the morning. The sound is very pronounced in the winter time during the first start.
