I'm not saying when I changed mine because my anonymity isn't complete. And while I haven't had any problems in 15k miles (and 6 oil changes :-), I don't want to preempt any warranty coverage if I do. Lets just say it wasn't quite on the nose of the manual recommendations.

Agreed. As you say, I don't think there's one true answer to this question. I was intending just to summarize the prevailing wisdom on this board, but got a little carried away making the argument.

In fact, I didn't follow the manual's recommendations to the letter. (For example: what do you do if you only put 1500 miles on the car in the first 6 months, or 4K in the first year? In my case, I opted for the change to synthetic before 6K.) Fortunately, like you, I've had no problems (and the car continued getting stronger even after a change to synthetic!).
