Hi,

till 9000 rpm permanent red lights and till 9500 the last 3 or 4 redlights start flashing. So the rev limiter is quite exactly adjusted to 9500 rpm.
But You can go even higher, by selecting the wrong gear when shifting down, going from 5th to 2 nd. Happened once at Hockenheim-Racetrack.Aucum sound.

Greetings from Germany

Pete

<sigh>

The redline is ~8950. That is where the ECU cuts fuel. Yes, the tach makes it appear you are running about 9500, but the flashing red lights are just meant as a shift light. I have dyno'ed several times and the dyno shows fuel cut at 8950 every time.

So why does Honda advertise 9000 RPM?

Maybe its the same as calling the S2000 a 2 liter when it's really 1997cc's . . .

The redline is 9,000 rpm per my '01 S2000 brochure, irrespective of any soft rev limiter in place. Their RC 51 has a soft rev limiter which kicks in before redline, but it's easily defeated.

How was RPM measured during these dyno pulls?

When I am looking at my revs via my V-AFC, the V-AFC is always 1-200 rpms lower than the reading on the stock tach. I trust the V-AFC. When I took the S2000 to the drag strip (14.4@96mph at about 2000ft above sea level) I redlined every shift and hit the fuel cutoff a couple of times, the V-AFC showed above 9000 rpms each time. Hope that helps

yes, a 5th to second would be bad. A mis shift from my friend cost me a new engine
