Default What is this noise?!

Any ideas what this noise is?

rod bearing? main bearing? something completely different?

Youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWrN5wdwqq4

It's been making a slight tapping/ticking sound for a while but it started sounding like this all of a sudden after a "spirited" drive the other night.

Definitely sounds like a rod bearing....and you revving it like that isn't helping it at all.

I only revved it for the video. I haven't driven it since it started making the noise and I basically idled it home when it started sounding like that.

Does it go away if you push the clutch in? The only reason i say this is because when it went back down to idle it seemed to sound very hollow and pingy. It could be a broken spring or finger on your pressure plate making that sound.

If it doesnt go away with pushing in the clutch then yes its def a bearing. If it were valve to piston contact it wouldnt take long for it to destroy itself.

Not sure...what type of ticking noise were you getting before this noise? Any CELs thrown? Also, what type of 'spirited' driving were you doing the other night? Did you perhaps have a mechanical overrev?

used motors are just as much as rebuilding. That's why I ended up with a 2.4 in the first place.
