For those that insist on antiquated 3k oil change intervals, please see this thread and read the post by Road Rage on why it's not a good idea (unless you don't drive very much).

It is an opinion and everyone has one. For many of us 3K miles represents more cold starts and harder wear than for others so to take one opinion and use it as a guideline for all is foolish. Change interval is a nit when it comes to so much of what is discussed so I suggest each do what makes them comfortable, and if you have no personal preference, there is a suggestion in the users manual.

You have to determine what's best for your driving style and usage pattern. There is no one-size-fits-all answer for this question.

Mobil 1 5W30 is fine. You don't need a 5W- oil down in Tuscaloosa, though since you don't see the cold temps.

However I'd be concerned about having your oil changed at an "express oil" place. I've heard and seen too many problems associated with quick lube places. I'll bet that they don't torque the oil drain plug (important because the soft oilpan threads can strip easily) and they don't use the correct aluminum crush washers. That's a disaster waiting to happen.
