Well if you buy the retainers and locks, it cost around $160.00 for parts.

Okay guys here's the final total for my rebuild the prices include shipping

JE 11.5.1 Pistons 87mm $275.00

ACL Rod/Main Bearings $140.05

LA Sleeve kit $520.00

Used 2001 F20C head $360.00

OEM gasket kit $200

Machine work $525.00

Total $2,020.05

I spoke to Endyn, which is a builder for Honda Racing here in Texas, They were a bit to expensive for me to use but they did give me some great tips to eliminate the valve failure I had.

They only use Comtech Valves, and machine new guides from brass, they said the OEM valves Crack at the head of the stem on the after one race, and the OEM guides have over a thousand and a half of an inch of play. they said to get the guides machined and have to tolerances at around seven hundred tenths of a thousand of an inch.

They said do this, and it will make the head indestructible

BTW: on closer inspection I did not loose a retainer lock the head of the valve snapped off. and that is what Endyn was saying most likely happened

Thank you very little... lol. I'm not afraid of doing many things, but screwing up a valve adjustment seems as dangerous as a bad retainer. I'd rather pay a pro to do some things.

You can only be as afraid of what your not willing to learn. I got a good machinist, and he doesn't mind giving me advice.

i'm glad you're able to do everything. it looks like you'll have a beast of a motor after all is done. and i agree with your statement, but there are also times when there is nice to "have a guy" for things. like that episode of 2-1/2 men where the jackass climbs on the roof to adjust the satellite dish, only to fall off the ladder. he saved the money of calling the guy, but went to the hospital. get the analogy?

anyway, good luck with your rebuild.
