Well with less you get detonation, and thats not good i had a motor burn out from some bad gas at a local gas station. With higher octane you get better combustion....

For N. American markets, this car's owner's manual states 91 Octane or higher. This is what is widely available.
One must be careful before posting things that could get people all worried. 93 Octane is not available everywhere.
With a "little" less, the car will still run "adequately" but with less output as the ECU can deal with it. With a "lot" less, then you can get into trouble.

pinging and detonation are your fears with lower than 91 octane. we don't have 91 around here so i use 93 which offers better combustion. anything higher is a waste of money on a stock s2000.

yeah, california gets the worst gas. everywhere else gets 93 or higher, we're stuck with 91. crappy deal.
