I've been using chevron religiously over the last 4 years. We have shell out here in ABQ, but I have heard some bad things about it on various web boards. A lot of Type R owners on honda-tech don't trust it....

Chevron is the best (without a doubt), Amoco/BP is definitely up there (my #2 when available), Mobil is good as well. In OKC were stuck with Shell, Texaco, Conoco, and various other 'crap' gas (Citgo - pronounced with a 'SH', Shamrock, etc.).
Luckily one of the Texaco stations here offers 93 octane and 101 octane from Red Rock Distr. ($3.69/gal).
A mixture of 3.5 gallons of 101 to 93 (in the rest fo the tank) makes the car run the best. Any more 101 in the tank makes no difference and is throwing away cash.
Also, Redline makes a great additive that I add every tankful. Either that or I use Amsoil's Performance improver. I've used the Redline since 1998 with nothing but good results. I started to use the Amsoil again because they improved their formula and also get good results, almost as good as the Redline product. The Redline is also slightly cheaper in price.

Whatever you do, don't skimp on gas.
If you can't afford the gas, sell the S2000 and buy a Civic. Or buy a Civic as well, to cut your costs. I have both.
With the current cost of gas, my total cost of ownership (gas, oil, insurance, payment) is about $72/month for the Civic ('03 HX) ... IF I drive the Civic 3-1 over the S2000 ('03). I find it hard to drive the Civic though, and the ratio is more like S2000 2-1 over the Civic. So much for fiscal responsibility ...

You lucky guys!
In Germany i pay 1.26 Euro for 1 Litre 100 Octane Shell gas, but even the 98 Octance costs 1.22 Euro per litre....
One Gallon = 3.8 Litre
1.26 Euro = 1.52 USD
So a gallon cost 5 USD here in Germany!

Probably wasn't the Chevron causing the detonation ... Never had even the slightest problem with detonation or anything while running Chevron in my old RX-7 turbo. My S2000 runs like magic when I can get some in the tank.
Too much boost + too low octane = detonation. Possibly a bad station (if it was the gas). However I've seen some stations in Texas offering 90 octane as their highest.
