What exploded underneath my car? (Pics)
My car was up on stands for a couple weeks and I made two modifications...
First, I installed a 4.57 differential built by Hardtopguy.
Second, I installed the Motorklasse drive shaft spacers.
I took my car out for a test run and everything felt really good. I didn't push it hard at all, just enough to feel the gears a bit.
So I pull into my garage, and I totally smell the something funky and see smoke coming up from the underside of the car. I look underneath, and there is some dirty looking grease all over the resonator on my Comptech exhaust that is burning off from the heat. The grease is pretty isolated to what looks like the rear end of the propeller shaft area, but I don't know exactly where it's coming from.
Here's the grease on the back third of the Comptech exhaust resonator. I wiped some away when I was trying to figure out what it was.
here's some very thin streaks of grease splatter on the front side of the diff as well as the on the pipes just behind the resonator.
There's an unusually higher buildup of grease at the front end of the differential mount brackets, just behind the rubber bushings
Grease all over the EVAP control canister

The infamous grease...

The diff mounts have a red fluid in them. You should see some drops under the mount/on the floor if that is what it is. Your grease is not red and looks like it was thrown by the driveshaft from the distribution of the spray. It may not be the mount.
It may be the propeller shaft rear joint leaking from the appearance.
