Default What does valve chatter sound like?

My guess is I need to get my valves back in spec, as I'm thinking their making some noise, but I'm still kind of a noob on the whole diagnosing thing. I drove with the top up today and noticed a noise that for lack of a better description: sounded like a nest of birds chirping (though not nearly as loud).

Symptoms:

- From about 3K+ you hear it, although from that point when it becomes audible the noise doesn't seem to noticeable change w/ rpms.
- Doesn't make it in neutral
- Sound stops when braking
- Only when under cruise / accel

I'm the 2nd owner, now has about 54k on it. My educated guess is leaning towards the valves, or feel free to correct me.

Thanks

doesn't sound like valves to me.
out of spec valve clearance usually is loudest at idle and sounds more like small soft clicking/tapping. not chirping as you mentioned earlier.

also, the noise would NOT be effected by braking or trans gear.

Any ideas then? Could it have been being low on oil? I checked and it was a little above the L, I threw in about half a quart to hold off until my oil change this week
