Default What could happen if I overfilled the coolant container?

I added a mixture of 50/50 coolant/water today, and I put in too much. It's about 1.5 inches above the "maximum" line on the container. Can I just let it be? or would it be diastrous to leave it there?

Thanks.

It will boil over and reduce the level all by itself.. don't worry about it. The Max line is to show the normal level is not at the top since it needs room for expanded hot coolant.

Sorry, I don't know much about cars.

How will it boil over with the cap still on the container? Would the pressure just build until the container burst?

Dude just pull the container out and pour out the extra if it's bothering you so much.

Don't worry about it. It will not boil over. Cdelena is right. If the reservoir has more than it can handle, then it will drip out the vented cap. Coolant isn't corrosive, so there's nothing to worry about. However Ethylene Glycol is considered hazardous to the environment, so if you're a serious tree-hugger, then you may want to siphon some of it out.

Yes, i am talking about the white plastic coolant reservoir to the right of the radiator.

Does that change any of the responses above?

Lord Man, you have asked and been answered. There is nothing, repeat n-o-t-h-i-n-g to fret about.

Don't pour it in storm drains - do the right thing and take it to a recycler. You do not have to be a tree hugger to understand that this, oil, etc. will pollute ground water, as well as be dangerous to any animal or child that ingests it. Cheesh!

Next!
