Its under the carpet at the bottom of the foot well against the firewall. It apears to be about 1/2" of closed cell foam w/ a rubber mat on the surface.

Is this item for sound or is it some sort of fire isulator?

Just making sure as I can't find mention of it in the helms manual and I want to make sure it's not part of the fire protection.

It's for the heat from the engine. I don't know how much help it would be in a fire though.
