I need to do an oil change this week. I've been using mobile 1 and from all the reading I've been doing it does seem to make the engine a bit noisy and may help kill tensioners (as many people with tct issues, including myself, were using mobile 1, coincidence or not..). I'm not rich and would prefer not to go amsoil or redline, but whats everyone's opinion on royal purple?

Do your research and be sure to buy whichever oil sponsors the most race teams, or costs the most money, and for fun maybe pick the one that is only distributed through a pyramid scheme.

If you change oil every 5k miles with Mobil 1 EP, and that's where I feel comfortable with Mobile 1 EP... I am a "preferred customer" for Amsoil and the discount is pretty good. Plus IMO I feel comfortable with a 7500 mile oil change with Amsoil so it pays for itself in 2 oil changes.

What is your logic behind thinking Amsoil is better than Mobile 1? It only pays for itself every two oil changes because of your false impression of Amsoil superiority leading to your longer change intervals. Notice how every 'Amsoil is better than Mobile 1' study is hosted on an Amsoil owned site and performed by an Amsoil funded lab?

Anyway, Walmart's Trutech full synthetic FTW. $10 per 5 quarts and you can change your oil and filter twice as often (getting rid of all contaminants) for 1/2 the price of the most popular oil brands...
