What are the advantages and disadvantages of a FINAL GEAR?
Sorry for the newbie question, but why a FINAL gear replacement is such a good mod for the S2k? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Also name the best final gears for our car.
Thnx!

the gears will rev out quicker, however the final speed you achieve at the end of each gear is lower, therefore the rpm's at your cruising speed on the highway with be higher and your top speed will suffer along with gas mileage. like matrix said: your car will be quicker, but you will have a lower top speed.

I understood. I don't care about the top speed, so there aren't many disadvantages for me. Which do you think is the best one? I mean ratio and maker.

And if you choose the wrong ratio for your particular track, you'll be quite a bit slower.
There is no particularily good ratio for everyone. It's up to you to decide which is better for you.

Here is a good thread that is active on this. It is from a track point of view, but you will get the idea.

The higher the final gear ratio, the more torque multiplication will occur.
Thus, it will accelerate faster since torque is what you feel.
But, it will reduce your maximum speed per gear accordingly.
Will reduce fuel economy at cruising speeds @ 6th gear since you have to rev more to achieve the same speed on a lower gear ratio.
Depending on what you need final gear replacement for, its up to your needs for the need of change.
