Default What is the adjuster behind the airbox

Hi,

I've recently removed an induction kit that I felt was robbing me some power and replaced it with a spoon snorkle which seems much better. When putting the airbox back on I came across the 'thingy' below which appear to have an adjustable top. What is it and what does it do?

It looks like the Idle up valve.

Which does what? Adjusts the idle I presume? Any benefit from moving it one way or another?

The parts list calls the "BYPASS CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY." The tubes entering and leaving it are called "TUBE A, SECOND AIR CONTROL SOLENOID" and "TUBE B, SECOND AIR CONTROL SOLENOID."

The secondary air control system is the high-pitched whine you here when first starting the car. It pumps fresh air into hot exhaust gasses to help burn all remaining fuel while the engine is cold.

I'm not aware of it being adjustable, but I haven't looked at it very closely.

It is NOT an adjuster. Don't try to turn it. You'll eventually just break it.
Elistan is correct in his description of what it is.

The previous kit was unbranded but consisted of a 90-degree metal arm with a filter on the end of it located near the front of the engine on the right hand side. Just sucked up all the heat.
