Would a ground like that solve the buzzing do you think? Or did I just forget a wrench in the car and assume?

Not sure. Didn't have the right tools to measure it unfortunately, however, I replaced the thrust bearings with OEM ones and don't see how I could get unlucky enough for my crank to be out of spec. It's definitely possible that that's my problem...

UPDATE

Went back to the car, hooked up the ground mentioned by snitm, turned it over for good measure again.
THIS time it actually froze. Got about 6 cycles in, combustion started for a second, then there was a quick screech and the whole thing stopped. Could be any number of parts causing that... I'm HOPING my clutch is the culprit here. If not, it may be time to put it in storage and plan for an LS swap...

Double check the crank endplay. I wouldn't try starting the engine until you've ruled-out anything which may lead to more damage.
