Weird ticking noise between 3-4k rpm
#11
Hi JAPCAB, I know the sound very well - I had the chain tensioner replaced and the valve adjustment done too. The sound is still there. It is certainly a faint but conspicious, continuous ticking sound, only present between 3-4k, noticeable when the roof and windows are up. -I have a new gearbox so that can be ruled out too.
I have had it for the past 10'000 miles and have put it down to the injectors. Please let me know if you find out any more, I have lost confidence with most honda dealers!!!!

yeah i'm not too keen on rebuilding the gearbox! not yet at least, if it gets stuffed i'll have to though.
I'll definately post any new information on this issue when i get any info.
Thanks for the help guys!! : )

i'll definately give it a clean out with some carby cleaner and see how i go.
I think i'm starting to lean towards the 'noisy injectors' as the cause of the noise...it does really sound like injectors tapping around.......

I have had the sound since 14000 KM's and I am on my 3rd tensioner and I am thinking that the tensioner is not the problem (Just changed it sound remains), I would be very interested in a solution !!!!

hahaha i had the same exact problem...i swear to god our cars have phantom noises at this rpm range its ridiculous...i'm pretty sure mine is an exhaust sound for some reason...3 mechanics told me it definately sounds like an exhaust noise...mine noise is coming from the cat it seems....i'm gonna get the gaskets and take the cat out and redo it in the next month or so...or when it warms up...whichever is earlier...

so many people have told me this noise is normal for our car's...the dealer i took it to said the mechanic who looked at my car owns an s2000 and he said it was normal...i found a loose bolt in the engine bay wedged between a heatsheild..it was one of the torx bolts from the spark plug cover. the sound is still there and i'm gonna get a stethescope to figure out where exactly its coming from...our car's are extremely noisey to begin with because of the valvetrain but i dunno in my eyes this just doesn't seem normal to me.
mine happens in the specific rpm range that you talk about after my car is warmed up..doesn't matter what speed, gear, clutch in/out.. its an engine noise. the only things i can think of right now are
a. injector noise - which would piss me off
b. my accessory belt looks worn out - dunno but its possible
c. maybe a pulley bearing is going - doubt it.
there's no performance loss on the car what so ever so its really tweaking me out because of how anal i am with my car's maintenance..mechanically anyway... i dunno it just makes me think the car sounds like "a$$"
