Default Weird start-up screech

Hey guys, I've noticed these past few days when I turn on my S2000 for the first couple of times in several hours, it has this weird screech. It's sitting in a garage right now because I'm waiting for the previous owner to mail me the title. But anyways, I turn on my car every night and sometimes drive it around the parking garage just to drive it but these past few days, I've noticed that it makes a weird screech the first couple times I turn it on. After I turn it on and off a few times, it will stop making the screech. Also this evening, I turned the car on and it made the screech. But I left it on and reved the engine a few times and turned it off and turned it back on and the screech was not there.
I was wondering if anyone had any idea on what this was? I don't know if it's just because the car is "cold" or if it's a problem with the starter. Should this be a huge concern? Should I get this fixed by someone and how much could it potentially cost to get fixed?

Video of me starting the car a few times this morning.

Thanks everyone!

How cold was it outside? There is a normal startup screech in cold weather, but it usually has to be below, say, 40 degrees F for it to appear. Sometimes has to be well below freezing, sometimes it can occur up into the 40's.

When the starter is going bad the noise can occur at warmer and warmer temps.

Its embarrassing, but harmless.

I have an ap2 that's been doing it for many years. I think it's common on all of them.

Sticking starter. You're hearing the fly wheel gears grind against the starter gears. Once the engine starts the starter should disengage automatically, its not so you're hearing the grind. It'll get worse until it fails and damages the teeth on the flywheel (it goes away after multiple starts because it heats up and loosens up and snaps back).

Put a starter on your list of items to replace in the near future. You can try cleaning it first to loosen up the crud, but its so much work to get to it you might as well just replace it.

When I had my ap1, I heard the same screech as you. I determined it was starter related as it sounded just like trying to crank up a car that's already on. It was most prevalent in the wintertime as well. My current ap2 does not do this though. But as stated, seems like a common issue with starters and s2000's.

Starter screech can happen at any temperature it seems like relative humidity is a bigger factor in causing it. Maybe some condensation mixed with dirt forming on the starter pinion causes it to be a bit slick.
