O and the ticking is caused because when matter gets hot it expands and when it cools it contracts, as you would know. When you turn your car off it starts to cool back to atmospheric temperature causing anything that was hot to slowly contract again. The ticking is everything moving shape. yeh absolutely nothing to worry about. Thats why you should warm up your car before giving it anything, because the "operating temperature" is basically the "operating size", cause its designed to run with all the sizing of the parts being that when they are hot. I believe metal expands at .02mm every 100 degrees C. So if you rev a cold engine your creating more wear cause its not the right size to be run high speeds!

So I got the Radio Shack ground loop isolator. Here's what it looks like:
The amp I have is the Boston Acoustics GT22.
So I went to install it and find that I couldn't because both ends of the isolator are "male" types. I'm not sure how to use the shorter cable as one end is just a single male plug. So I think I need to return it and get this instead. Any thoughts?
