Weird rattling noise at start up
Just about everytime I start up my S when its cold outside it makes a rattling noise from the engine for maybe a second or two right after startup, then it goes away. I think it might be the starter but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. The engine runs like normal and havent had any problems other than the rattle. The car is an 02 with 75K miles.

Can you make a vid so we can hear the sound?
It may be the Timing Chain Tensioner or just time to adjust the valves. Both are less than $200 repairs.
Your engine mods might also provide some clues.

The engine is completely stock and I was searching and found out that it is the starter. The TCT is more of a card in bicycle spokes sound and this is more of a grinding sound. Thanks for the help though.

Yes many people have fixed it by simply replacing the starter. Need to make sure it is the starter and not the TCT (timing chain tensioner) before replacing starter though. Seem to be a very similar sound and symptoms.
