Weird noise from rear end pls help.
I have a 01 Spa Yellow S2k. I've only had my car for 2 months and the second day that I got it I had the Diff fluid changed to Mobil 1 Sync, Oil changed to Mobil 1 Sync 10W30 and the Tranny fluid to the factory fluid.
Lately I've been hearing this weird clanking noise coming from the back of the car. It happens when I'm stopped at a light and as soon as I get into gear and go about 3 feet forward I hear the noise. It's not that loud but sounds like 2 pieces of metal hitting each other. This only happens when I stop and accelerate and when I put the car into reverse. I hear the noise even louder when I put the car into Reverse and as soon as my car goes back about a few feet I hear the loud clank noise.
The car rides fine, idles fine and accelerates fine. I'm really paranoid about this noise; I'm thinking it could lead to a bigger problem.
Lately the noise seems to have gotten louder since the last time I heard it. I've checked for debris in the springs, and for stuff stuck on the tire and found nothing.
Could I have a bad diff?
To clarify things the noise sounds like a clap when 2 metal objects hit each other, and sometimes it sounds like a pop.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

It may be your axle. There is a TSB regarding this. You need to take off your axle nut and pop some grease in there and put the nut back on. I have some clicking sounds from my rear also and need to get this checked out. I'm pretty certain this isn't your diff...

I had a similar problem with a popping noise when I started from a stop. I took it in for the TSB just mentioned and they couldn't get the noise to stop. I should mention the noise started after Honda replaced my half shafts/inner cv joint for another TSB. They had my car for two weeks and tried half shafts, and a drive shaft off another s2000. They took apart and regreased all the suspension components too. They could not totally get rid of the noise. The car still makes the noise if I accelerate quickly in reverse but is a lot better.

Thanks everyone, I checked the TSB on the rear axle. I think thats what the problem is.
I had another question though, I purchased my car from car max and I have a car max warranty. I don't have a Honda factory warranty, will Honda still fix this problem for me for free or will they charge me? Afterall it is their defect.
Thanks
