Default Weight- 10-30 recommended?

THe manual says to use 10-30 if the car doesnt get below 0 deg f. Is that what everyone else is using. I"m in Va and it def doesnt get below 0. It recommends 5-40 for the alternative instead of 5-30?

Let me know
Thanks
Harold

Didn't you just make a post about which dino oil is the best for your new car? You've already answered half of your question by reading your manual. You won't find a 5w40 that's not a synthetic, and in your previous post you state that you're unwilling to run a synthetic in your car until you've reached higher miles (10000+?).

So now we're down to a 5w30 and a 10w30, both dino oils. My advice, flip a coin and go change your friggin' oil. You're in VA, it's spring time, I don't think you'll see temps below 40F for the rest of the year at this point. I'd stick with what the manual recommends just for peace of mind, so go with a 10w30.

Now, for what it's worth, I always run a 5w30/40 or 0w30 oil in my S2000. You asked if everyone else is using a 10w30? Hell no! Lots of people use lots of different oils for lots of different reasons. There are guys on here that had virtually no consumption with 10w30 dino, they switched to synthetic and now are seeing 1qt/1000 miles on their AP1 S2000s. If it were me, the choice would be obvious, I'd switch back to dino but instead they keep running synthetic, burning oil like crazy in the process. Sometimes people do things that don't make a lot of sense. So who cares what other people are running in their cars? Pick an oil that YOU like based on information that you've gathered, having us tell you what we're running won't help you decide at all, if anything it'll leave you more confused.

What's wrong with following the owners manual? You're already following a little known service bulletin from Honda warning about switching to synthetic oil too early. Why stop there? Read your owners manual and follow that, you'll be fine.

I live north of you and I use 10W-30 non-syn year round, no problems. ~0.75 quart loss per 3000 miles

most people listen to the manual unless they too have mechanical engineering PH.Ds like Honda engineers and have come up with something better
