Yeah, if engine got any heat-related warping, a compression test will tell you right away. Numbers don't really matter, as long as all cyls are tested the same exact way, and the numbers from cyl to cyl are within 10% of each other. If that's the case, you've passed. If not:
Leakdown test. It'll point out what's the problem: exhaust, intake valves, or gasket.

So I ran with the same friend with the 227k mile ap1, but this time from a rolling start at around 10mph. We did 4 runs just to be completely sure... and I was pulling on him every time. the gearing is definitely the reason why i pull on him on lower speeds and not on higher speeds. When i get my water pump replaced I'm going to do a quick compression check just to get rid of any worries I have. Thanks for the input guys
