Default Watch what you buy - Cracked Head

I recently bought a used S2000 head from a member on the "For Sale" forum for $400. Thought I got a good buy. Sent it off to Joe Alaniz for him to perform his magic. He called me a few days back with some bad news. After a hot tank cleaning, he discovered the following:

What a bummer. Well, thats a $400 lesson learned. So all you shoppers out there, be careful as to what you send your hard earned $ out for. All is not lost for me though. A quick call to Hardtopguy has a new bare head on its way to Alanis.

Was the head already milled when you bought it?

What a bunch of crap....

Is there even a remote chance the seller was unaware? Or was this an intentional effort to screw you?

Yes, acording to Alaniz, it had been milled about .010. This was news to me though.

I can assume the seller was unaware, because it did not become apparent until after the hot tank. Joe Alaniz thinks the head was dropped on its front. Thats what it looks like to me too. And I know I didn't drop it. Also, it was crated so well, that it would have been virtually impossible for UPS to have done the damage.

There is more of a story behind that Cylinder head than meets the eye. I had to have been off the car at least once to be milled, Most likely due to behing warped from severe overheating. I also find it strange the cracks are in the front chain case area. This is where the Vortech SC mounts one of the SC brackets.

If my memory serves me right, it came from Ohio and the seller said it came off a SC car with about 8000 miles on it.

Good point Fperra, definitely could have been damaged in transit. I had a Cylinder head shipped back from Gude damaged similarly.

I'd rather not say as he may be totally innocent - he was selling second hand and might not have been aware of the problem. I'll let his conscience be his guide.
