Warranty after accident?
I bought a used 2001 S2000, that was in a minor front end collision which did not require any mechanical repairs. My A/C had stopped working so I brought it in for what I thought would be covered under the warranty. The dealer said that since the car had been in an accident the A/C repair would not be covered under warranty. While I did not argue at the time, becuase I thought it would be a mute point, when I picked up the car, it turned out that the O rings were leaking which caused the loss of the freon. This leads me to believe that it was Honda's O ring which was the problem and had nothing to do with the previous accident. Do you think I have a valid case? Anyone else with a similar situation?
FYI the repair was approx. $300

being a service writer myself.....i wold try to convince the customer that the accident caused a failed part, rather than a factory defect which would be covered under your factory warranty (we make more money if you pay for it).
but to help you out.....the dealer can not deny you warranty coverage unless they can prove the accident caused the failed part. if in case it was caused by the accident, then you would be responsible for any diagnostic, repairs, and parts charges.
if they are telling you its coming from an o-ring from that last repair....ask them to let you see.....they should be giving you a pair of yellow tinted glasses to look for dye marks. they do indeed have to prove that the accident caused this failure, otherwise they have to fix it....worse comes to worse....call Honda Consumer Affairs.

Thanks for the advice, I will give it a shot. Maybe we can assume a 50/50 liability or something. I don't want to be an a$#@le about it but I think it is a pretty logical arguement.

when they run an a/c performance or recharge service, they can introduce a dye into the a/c system. this is actually the easiest way to find a leak in the system. under ultra-violet light, the refridgerant leaks out and creates a yellow smoke or leaves yellow marks wherever the gas is escaping.
