I am going to replace the starter. Battery and alternator were within normal limits underload. A buddy of mine said this is what happened to him months before his starter ate crap on him.
What a waste of time.... find the real reason before you go to the effort of replacing the starter. Your buddy may or may not be correct.

I've yet to NEED to replace the starter on a Honda.
I already have the cold start grind every cold start as well...both are Honda starters also

Hah, my car is presenting the same problem, too. On a cold start, it will start up just fine. However, after stopping and restarting from short errands, it sounds like the starter is struggling. I know the starter is fine since I replaced it last year due to the "cold start grind" that seems to be a issue plagued among the original S2k starters. I'm having my battery tested today.

What leads me to believe the battery is the cause of the issue is because one; it's a cheap Duralast battery, and two, it's been in the car since 2009, which isn't long, but some batteries just go bad for no apparent reason.

The engine bay heat could also effect the ignition relay from what i understand also. Keep us updated on your findings
