UPDATE - Just took the car out. Let the car sit and warm up to 3 bars. Tried VTEC in first gear, no go. Engine just revs..No sound from VTEC and no boost at all. Dropped to second and hit 6K, VTEC screamed as usual and car took off.

Was able to try once more before i pulled into work. VTEC in first kicked in VEERY sluggish, nowhere near normal or the same behavior in 2nd or third gear.

Should i try an ECU reset? I don’t know how to do it but i assume i can pull the battery cable tonight and let it sit until morning?

Thanks guys!!

I suspect low oil pressure.

Why are you revving a cold engine that high? Check your oil level

The oil level is OK. I assume if the oil pressure is bad i need to replace the oil pump? I revved the engine cold and i know i shouldn’t have but what’s done is done. That’s what caused this to happen so that’s why i was thinking an ECU reset might do the trick before i started on other things. I also read the link posted above about cleaning the VTEC solenoid filter thing but i would need a DIY guide on it. I’m not a mechanic so I’m kind of scared to do it on my own but i will if it’s something simple.

If there's no CEL, I don't see a point in resetting the ECU. Will it rev to redline?

Vtec doesn't exsist on a cold motor. Let the car idle thru two fan cycles and then try BTW is this an ap1 or ap2?

AP1. Ok so from what i understand you are saying to start the car and let it sit at idle through two cooling fan cycles?? I can do this right now right out in my work parking lot.

Thing is, when i hit VTEC on the cold motor it did kick in the all of a sudden bogged down and the car seemed sluggish. I depressed the clutch and went to second and the car drove normally. After that i tried VTEC from first again and had no response.

You might be experiencing placebo effect...

In order for VTEC to engage, you need:

Proper operating temp
proper oil pressure
proper throttle position
proper RPM

In addition to the stuff above, certain CELs will cause VTEC to not work, or problems w/ your tachometer, leaky VTEC solenoid gaskets, etc.
