Default VTEC turns on at 6200 RPM?

Okay I am tired of searching and reading, can't find a thread that covers this issue...

I noticed in the last couple weeks that VTEC is delayed and kicks at 6200 RPM??? The transition is crisp but late. Anyone have any ideas why?

- Car has 89k miles, have always run Mobile 1 since purchased at 24k miles.
- Check the screen filter at the VTEC valve and it is perfectly clean.
- Measure solenoid resistance at 15 ohms (did not suspect but did while apart)
- Last oil change was about 2500 miles ago.
- Verified oil level, I keep it between half and full on the stick.
- Changed oil filter just for fun.
- Reset the ECU.
- Did the MAP whack as some suggest
- No CEL has come up while having this issue
- Car runs great otherwise

???

That is where it kicks in on the AP1....
VTEC doesn't kick in on at the same place on every car....

I guess you never noticed where your car actually starts REALLY moving before??

I thought the ECU determined when vtec turned on via a few parameters including, RPM, TPS, engine load, oil pressure, intake temp, and a few others.

If so, 6200 is fine.

Are you going by some other means to check the RPM or are you looking at the factory tach?

By factory tach, every s2k I've driven (ALOT) is 6k.

6200 rpm's is where it is supposed to kick in. How long did it take you to notice where VTEC engages?

Hmmmm, on the same note it seems to me that my VTEC engages at an even higher 6500rpm, which I thought was normal, because it sounds like the correct time to switch over and it pulls very hard from then on. This is OK right? I do live at 4000feet above sea level if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks for all the responses. Good data.

I apologize for omitting where it normally turned on for my car which is about 5800 best i could tell using the dash tach. So it appears to be a delay on the order of 500 RPM.

At least it's within what is considered "normal.'
