Its prolly from your high/low crossover your feeling. My LsVtec used to do that all the time, Vtec would come on spike, then drop- then begin to pull like a bat out of hell.... Get a Tune and youll be okay!

EDIT: I guess I can see the MAP whack as a possible diagnostic step. However seeing as how no one can explain it or why it "MAY" work temporarily, I don't put much stock in it. If you haven't already performed the TSB linked here, I would. If you go to a dealer and explain the problem and ask about the TSB they may even just do it for you, stranger things have happened. They are not obligated as this is not a recall only a TSB. At any rate the parts required come as a set including the MAP itself and a special zip-tie. You can order just the zip-tie itself for like $6 or $7. I ordered just the zip-tie because I was not having the problem, just wanted to prevent it. Since you are already having the problem you may want to go ahead and replace the MAP along with adding the zip-tie like Honda say's to. I don't think the replacement MAP sensor is even an updated part, however I don't remember this for certain. I think Honda just wants you to replace a MAP sensor that is already showing these symptoms with a new one. Good Luck.

VAFC will fix squat.
LIGHTLY tap the map sensor about 30 times with a screwdriver handle, while reving the engine up and down just above idle, like 1000-1400. This will at least rule the map is at fault.
My car as well as a few customers have had the exact issue you described. A new map (or even the map whack) will fix it.
