I had that problem, turned out my clutch was slipping bad at the higher rpms, thus not engaging the vtec for some reason.

well.. driving home from work (about 12 miles in the distance)
i gave my engine a lil check again to see what up... it engaged well and full response was back... i dont think i warmed my car up enough yesterday
it was a concern for me though. does it normally not engage untill 2 bars on the oil (or engine) temp gage are present? well.... warmed up untill?
sorry for the false alarm guys. but it scared the sh** out of me when vtec didnt kick in, and the car slowed down more then sped up after 6500 rpm

Always warm the car up thoroughly before running it hard. Also keep in mind that your car has "summer" tires that do not deliver full grip when cold. If you get on the car too hard before the tires are warm the back tires will spin far too easily and you could end up in a spin before you know what's happening. Warming up the tires takes much longer than warming up the engine, so be careful and warm EVERYTHING up before turning into Mario Andretti.

3 bars may be where the rev limiter goes out and lets you go into vtec but the oil is still cold. I wont go into vtec until about 15 miles past the temp gauge being hot since the water temp goes up long before oil temp...that means no vtec for about 20 miles. I am surprised people try to rev a cold motor.
At least that is the way I drive my 2 cars that go that high in the revs, I want both of them to last, first one is only 40 years and still sounds great at 8,500RPM, the S is a 07 and I hope it lasts as well as my first.
Rev em often, its called exercize and motors need it just like we do.
