chris: how do you know the vtec is not cross-overing? um...you could hard wire a light on the solenoid to see if its on or off.

check the oil level first, the second place would be the vtec solenoid filter screen

Listen, one time, another owner couldn't engage Vtec. According to him, the maintenance light had been on for a few thousand miles. He checked the usual suspects like oil and the solenoid and nothing worked. When we reset his light, he had Vtec.

It's something for the guy to check to see if he can get Vtec back. Take your flags and shove em'.
You think maybe the owner complaining about no VTEC when the maint. light was on actually had a CEL maybe?

Maybe a CEL for something to do with VTEC?

The maint. reqd. light is just that. You need MAINTAINENCE. Oil change and inspection, etc. Has nothing to do with the ECU or VTEC.

Chris
have you had the cel diagnosed or even read the codes to determine that it has to do with your testpipe? maybe it has something to do with why your vtec is not engaging.

Check the oil level before having the oil changed, and let us know what you find.

The Maint light is just an idiot light to remind you to change the oil, and all it does is turn on and off. The only thing that is affected when it is on is the driver, who is suppose to see it and get the oil changed.

Maint Reqd light has no affect on engine driveability. Guaranteed.

Checking the oil is always a great start.

But your symptom are almost guaranteed...bad MAP sensor.
