Default VTEC/ Idle/ Evap issues :/

Hey guys, I need some diagnostic help. I have a 00 s2k with 77,000 on it. I have had three issues spring up at once and I am wondering if they are related.

Problem one is an issue with cold starts and cold engine idle. On very cold days the car will sometimes turn off immediately after it turns over. Also, only when the car is cold if I come to a stop and put in the clutch RPMs will sometimes quickly drop to about 300 and then the car will catch itself rev to about 1200 and then return to normal idle around 900. At first I thought EGR vavle but now I'm not so sure with the other issues.

Problem two also started about the same time 5000 miles ago. This is the issue of my greatest concern. When the car is fully warmed up (yes 10+ minutes and 3 bars) the first time I engage VTEC I get a very notchy power delivery. The VTEC engages around 6000 and then on its way up to 9000 there seems to be a series of brief hesitations or losses of power and then a burst of power on and off through the full vtec range. When I try to duplicate the problem the car behaves normally. It only does this the first time I engage VTEC. The oil is always changed around 3000 miles and new plugs were put in about 10,000 miles ago, cold air intake installed. No engine code for this problem. Maybe a map sensor malfunction?

Problem three is engine code P1457 Evap canister side vacuum leak. I am thinking this might be a stuck solenoid. Problem has been off and on for 7000 miles. Gas cap was replaced and was is not the problem.

Thanks for your help!

I dont think there is an EGR valve on the S.. infact im almost positive, must mean something else. Try cleaning the IACV.

I would take off the VTEC solenoid and clean the filter, you shouldn't have to but its worth a look at. I took off the filter on my01 and it was squeaky clean. Check the connections too just in case.

Check the vacuum system for any and every possible leak, make sure all the hoses are where they need to be and nothing is cracked.

About the best I can really say.
