VTEC Engagement

6000 rpm = VTEC is engaged, no mather the trottle position! It's a mechanical action once you pass the right rpm's. Of course, if you are low on oil, VTEC could not engage since it works on the engine oil. Same story when the engine temp is still cold you have the rev limiter that won't allow you to go into VTEC...
VTEC engages depending on the following:
1. Throttle Position
2. Oil Pressure
3. Coolant Temperature
4. Transmission Speed Sensor Signal
5. Crankshaft Speed
All of these readings go back to the ECU. The ECU then decides on the optimal VTEC activation point.

This is a little of track, but ... it vtec in my 05 S (~2k miles) seems to kick-in a little above 6K RPM, maybe as high as 6.2K RPM before I feel the effect. Does my vtec engage late, does it engage before I feel the effect, is the tachometer sufficiently valid to know the determine the actual RPM, should I be looking at the road instead of the tach with WOT, am I worrying about nonsense and need to get a life, does anybody care, will Michael Jackson do time, ... . Thank you in advance for the answers to these and other earth-shattering questions.

AusS2000 and Tugz_S2k: Thanks, thats what i was thinking but i just wanted someone else to confirm that since i was not sure .
Lionheart: Its ok, don't be to hard on yourself. The fact that i had to ask this shows how little i know .
John_Z: Or how about: D) Get a supercharger so i don't have to get the gears to pretend i'm fast

Thanks for the support, StinkyTofu, now it hurts a little less I really thought I new the answer to the question and was glad to be able to finally answer a question, but as we can see, the die-hards on this forum who turned their S'ses inside out keep surprising us and do know a whole lot more on the cars! But they're right, when we're wrong they have all the right to tell us so! That's the way we learn Coming from other convertibles and having turned them inside out and having developed an own forced induction system and helping the people on those forums, I know how it must feel to see a freshman answer... wrong I'm learning

I've gone over 6K in my car without feeling/hearing the VTEC kick in. I'm just not flooring the pedal. Does that mean the VTEC has still initiated but waiting for me to get into WOT?
As long as the oil is warm, and the wheels are rolling you will cross over at the normal RPM's.
I wouldn't want to run at those RPM's for extended periods, JMO

Roughly around 90-95mph we'd be crusing above 6000 rpm and that would be in the "vtec" zone.

Theres no real fear for cruising in vtec but my reasons for not wanting to cruise in vtec are quite simple:
1) Better fuel efficiency
2) Less wear on the valvetrain
