Default VTEC between 7k-7.5k sounds weird (AP1)

Hi,

In this range in VTEC (noticed in 4th gear but think it's in all) VTEC sounds different. Does yours change tone? It kinda sounds weak/loose, makes me think it's going to break! It's quite hard to explain, maybe i'll get a vid if nobody knows what i'm chatting about!

Just had it's 54k service done including valve clearance. Checked oil, it's still a nice colour and topped up to the top diamond!

Sounds like a valve is going to vibrate to death and snap or something

Actually, I know what you mean.

VTEC is too loud, almost like its vibrating to much. And not pulling strong.

I had a car here with the exact same problem, it had crankwalk and the engine needed to be replaced.

Get a dial indicator and measure the crank thrust (back nad forth) at the front crank pulley. Post the numbers.

Thanks, well had a spiritied drive to work today, if sounds fine in all gears other than 4th gear where between 7-7.5k VTEC gets a little louder. It still pulls strong though!

I've got a K&N Gen 2 and taken my bonnet lining out so figured maybe it's just resonance of something at that particular pitch.

Billman stop scaring me! It's just a little louder that's all!

Also I have no idea what this means!: Get a dial indicator and measure the crank thrust (back nad forth) at the front crank pulley. Post the numbers.

So measure how much my front crank pulley is moving yer? Like in this vid? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QACv117Sug

This only looks like it's moving a mm how would I measure that?

Damn, why is crankwalk such an issue with these motors? Almost didn't want to put an F series motor back into my car because I'm worried about the thrust bearings.

Mate same here, I bought an S2K because I thought they were indestructable. Honda's "We have never had an engine fail, ever!" drew me in! Mines only on 48k and i've replaced the diff already (£400), the gear box is whining (bearings) (£1000 rebuild) and now it might need a new engine... (£2.5k) if it does i'm jumping ship after just owning it a month and half! Haha I thought my Corsa VXR was a nightmare lol!

EDIT: Buy this right? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metric-Dia...item35bd125c15

^^ Honda's engines are indestructible it's the USER error that makes them destructible**
