These are uncommon issues among those posting here. Loose or frayed wire to a sensor could intuitively case the issue. Bad controller "box" for either could as well as printed circuits can crack or have cold joints. The information that the former owner buggered the exhaust and emissions controls would make me want to check the car closer. Is the car lowered? OE spec wheels and tires?

Tire diameters and revolutions/mile are close enough to not make the ABS/VSA systems think there's something wrong. (I'm running 215/255 "CR" spec on my car.) I recall topics here with lowered cars and wheel sensor problems but didn't pay attention as I have enough trouble getting in and out of my driveway at stock height.
Light on when you bought it indicates it "ain't your fault." But you still need to fix it.

exactly lol. I knew that going into it. when looking at it to purchase, that was a secondary issue. I did a compression test and it was 240s a cross all cylinders. The clutch felt very strong. The top was new. So I felt I could work on the things I didn't like after I created a baseline of maintenance items. I replaced spark plugs, tires, installed a Billman TCT, replaced gaskets, bushings, ball joints, re greasing items, etc. Now I'm on to solving this.. I'll let you know what I find!

Knowing that you went into this fully aware there was a problem makes me feel better -- you'll find a solution.
