Vortech SC - timing control box demystified
Vortech says the timing control box is made by Split Second,
and a google search turned up this:

The label "FTC-3" on my black box must be "Fuel Timing Calibrator", um, three.
And I think there's some software to program it through that serial port...
"Engine Management Software - WindowsTM based software that controls the AIC Additional Injector, PSC Programmable Calibrator and FTC Fuel/Timing Calibrator families of products. "
