As for the possibility of another bad connection, I don't think you were the only one. I've seen and heard of several owners who got bad harnesses and it made for a "nightmare". Although my "ratsnest" is quite a sight, at least I know that each connection was made by me with "tender loving care". I have adopted a philosophy that whenever an aftermarket harness is involved, I always test each socket pair for continuity. Even then, it can still fool you if the end holders are not secure.

I hear what you are saying, but yes it fits (just) and wire tap connections have to be more problematic than fully soldered ampenol plug sets.
With those inline taps you are slicing into the insulation and the edge of the wire to make contact. Then behind that you've got a spade connector and then the wire crimped onto the back of that. Crimps, spades, and taps have a worse reputation than the fully soldered surely. Particularly over time.
And another benefit is that I get to do all my wiring on a workbench with good lighting rather then on my back in the footwell with a torch (I had a fun installing the Modifry Redline Warning Module recently - Highly recommended BTW).
As for miswiring, or bad connections, I did test my VAFC harness before installation. Infact it was as a result of my testing that Jaker added and extra wire to make the original harness compatible with Aus (and probably other regions) S2000's.
