no, i have not tried swapping alternators with him, but i think that its unrelated

the service manual mentions that there is a voltage regulator under the hood, apparently in the main fuse block, but i can't find what they are talking about

any ideas?

the voltage regulator is part of the alternator. you probably bought a defective alternator

I have the same problem. I can FEEL my AC fan go up and down as the idle changes. bad bad bad. I'm under the assumption its a bad alternator/bad battery. I'll update if I remember when I swap my battery.
