Default Vibration at 38-40 mph

I just bought a 2005 S2000 with 14,500 miles on it. It looks like it still has the original tires on it. At 38-40 mph there is a vibration that is not present at any other speed. The dealer said it probably has flat spots from sitting around since 2005 in someone's garage. I just bought it 2 days ago and was wondering if it is flat spots, will they wear off? I haven't gotten it in for diagnosis yet but was just curious. Great Forum.

Thanks

Sounds like your tires aren't balanced. Go to a local tire shop and have them balanced. If they were balanced, see if one of the weights fell off. If it did, then go to the tire shop and have them balanced.

I think flat spot are more likely than tires being out of balance. Does the vibration seem to come from just one corner? Each wheel should have some balancing weight on it. If one had no weights, of it they have two weights but one has only one weight, then you're likely missing one weight.

Out of curiosity (not suggesting that you should), have you driven it at 76-80mph? Do you experience vibration there?

Thanks guys. I will get the wheels balanced first and see if that fixes it. It only vibrates at the 38 -40 mph range. I have driven it up to 90 or so and haven't noticed it at any other speed but sometimes I can barely feel a little vibration at around 60, but that might just be my imaginaton. If the balance doesn't work I will buy new tires. Thank you for the replies.

Let us know when you figure out the problem.

Most common problem is improper inflation of the tires. Not sure what the correct is for an AP2. I run 32/34 front/rear in my AP1. I'd check this first.

The mechanic said it was cupping on the tires. When I bought it it had 14,500 miles, now after 2000 miles of driving the vibration is a lot less, but I think a new set of tires will solve it. I am going to drive on these tires for a while.
