Very Low compression numbers
Hey guys, i had a compression test done on a s2000 i plan on purchasing.
1=105
2=100
3=110
4=120
A local guy recommend the shop and i also have seen very good reviews of the shop.
I am super confused because the owner told me everything is great with the engine but I've always heard the numbers are suppose to be 200+ so wth is going on?
At the time of the test the engine was low on oil, and Ive also heard the numbers aren't whats important, it has more to do with the consistency of the numbers? Is there a possibility the test was done incorrectly, or maybe the gauge used wasn't reading properly?
Also i dont believe the car was warmed up to operating temp?
Please Chime in, thanks guys

Might be a dumb a** thought of mine with 5 am thought behind it.. but was it turbo'd at all? Low compression pistons ?

Everything is stock, as far as i can tell it was never turbo'd. i check all of the bolts in the engine bay, none of them show any sign of being taken off or anything.
I was wondering if there is a possibly the technician didnt hit the gas pedal while doing the compression test or something like that? im pretty sure with these low numbers it would show in performance or something?

well i did a butt dyno and that says its normal lol... Im almost positive it wasnt warmed up because when they moved it out of the garage i took a peek inside of the car and noticed the temp gauge.
I am also pretty positive they didnt take out the fuel pump fuse because after the test he didnt put a fuse back in to move the car, he only reinstalled the plugs... and i feel like while i was watching him do the test he had his legs out of the car which means he did go WOT. (not 100% on that one tho)
Would all of those things together come up with the low numbers??

I think if the engine was absolutely trashed, it would just not run well, at all.
I had thought of taking my 02 to get a comp test, but figured a dyno would be more fun...and more conclusive. I actually put out very good numbers...191 on a Mustang dyno.

definetly have the test done again regardless. when it comes to purchasing a car and the amount of money it costs to buy it. A simple 10 minute test is something not to skimp on. could save you major headache down the road. And if the person really wants to sell it they will have no problem doing a second test.
