Default very bad mileage...

ok....i am having trouble getting my S pass the 350km per tank mark
i do mostly city driving and shift at around 2.5-3 thousand rpm...
i can seem to figure out why the mileage is so poor
will get the car checked out in the coming week
does anyone know anything about this?
thanks in advance

350km = about 217 miles... You said you do mostly city, so that sounds about right. I usually get about that much when I don't drive on the freeway during my tank.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttt! No way! I live in Portland and when I drove to Seattle and back I almost made it all the way without refilling. It's 150 miles each way. I probably went 280 before it was empty.

217 miles per tank in the city seems somewhat low to me. I used to drive 100% city...to and from work, 5 days a week. My work was 8.5 miles away from my condo and I took streets both ways. I was consistently hitting 280 miles per tank...that was top down every day, normal driving, mostly 2.5-5k on the tach, saw VTEC every now and then.

I recently started a new job, 33 miles away...freeway both ways (some city once exited the freeway -- about 3 miles off the freeway). Now I'm getting consistently 320 - 330 miles per tank. I drive at pretty constant speeds anywhere from 65-75 mph, stock gearing so the tach is around 3500 - 4500 for most of my drive.

I fill up only with 91 octane fuel, 99% of the time from either Costco or Chevron. I change my oil every 5000 miles with Mobil 1 synthetic and fresh OEM oil filter. Tires are stock Bridgestones and are inflated to correct spec. I drive top down probably 85% of the time. Only mods that affect powertrain is my K&N FIPK.

To the OP, do you change your oil on time? Do you use synthetic or conventional oil? What kind of tires do you have? Are they inflated properly? What kind of intake/header/exhaust do you have? Are you running an aftermarket tune? Do you have a hard top or soft top...or both? Do you drive top up or down most of the time? Do you have any subwoofers/bigger speakers in your car? All of these, and more, will affect your gas mileage.

Maybe something is not right with your tune. Did you buy the car new or used? Did the previous owner mod the car? He might have had a tuner shop tune the car so it ran rich (more gas than air in the Air/Fuel ratio) and maybe that's contributing to the reduced gas mileage.

(this one may sound stupid, but....) Do you always ensure that you tightly close the gas cap? I always see people drive away from a gas station with their gas cap dangling from the gas lid...it's funny, but can be dangerous since any little static shock could set off the gasoline fumes that would be leaking from the gas tank.

Hopefully my jumbled thoughts and questions may induce a realization as to what may be causing your low gas mileage. Good luck with your issue, hopefully someone with more knowledge regarding fuel consumption can chime in.

Distance per tank is a poor measurement. Convert it to L/100km or mpg.

If I do no highway driving, It get about 11.8 L/100km (20 mpg). If I do mostly highway, I get more like 8.4 L/100km (28 mpg).

One other suggestion that hasn't been mentioned:
Try shifting at 4000RPM, I got better mileage when I shifted at a higher RPM.

My AP2 is perfectly fine and I get 21mpg mixed (hard) city driving and highway cruising. If I do nothing but cruise on the highway, I can get 26mpg. Then again I can count the number of times I've done that in the past 2 years on one hand. I have a second car for the boring miles and the S for the fun miles.
