Default Valvle tapping, two taps in a second at idle

Hi. I've done the search and lots of threads appeared, but I'd like to refine some questions.

After reading a lot of them, I think it have to be a valve adjust, I hope there is not the #4 cylinder issue.

Scenario:

- 59006 miles (95000 Km) 2000 S2000 Euro
- #4 cylinder thing TSB done in 2002
- Oil ok
- Conventional everyday driving with occasional 8.5K tops.
- Never overrev'd
- Always waited until three temperature bars.
- Never made valve adjustment
- Car performance always perfect

I picked it this evening to make a short ride, (12 miles) and just when the three bars appeared, I began to rev in 2nd and 3rd to 8 and 9K rpm. I have to say there is a cold whether here.

In the last revving, I noticed something as the car stopped to pull at 7500 or so, but I couldn't verify, as I reached the place I went to.

When parking, I noticed this tapping for the first time. Done the things (20 min.) and when restarting the car, I noticed again. Went back to home (about 12 miles), and there I inspected more carefully the noise.

I even refill oil until top. (5W40 Esso Ultron, the official Honda Spec here in Europe)

The rattle is CLEAR, LOUD and solid. A TAC - TAC - TAC - TAC that increments when revving. It seems to be one valve that is tapping. I've not noticed any loss of power of bad idle. (I had two cars with valve 'accidents' and know how an engine behaves without compression in one cylinder).

The MAIN QUESTION(s):

Tomorrow I have to do a 315 miles trip. Is where my main Honda Service is and where I have the office to begin work after my Christmas holidays

The closest Honda Service I have is 43 miles away instead.

Can I go straigh (and carefully) to my main Honda Dealer 310 miles away?

Will be better to go to the close one at 43 and travel the other 280 miles to my work town by bus?

Forget all and tow the S2000 to the close Service to avoid the destroy of the engine?

Thanks!

If so, It's a scuffed bore.

Look here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=445061

I wouldn't drive it any more than absolutely necessary.

One of my guys with a scuffed #4 bore drove the car easy for 1.5 years.

You can take it to the dealer, just shift at 3500 and be light on the gas.

Easy is the key word. I punched a rod out of a Civic pulling out of the shop. The owner did most of the damage, after running for 20K+ without an oil change.

He went from having a rebuildable core to a paperweight.

Well, thanks for the advices, specially to Slows2k, who induced me to tow the car instead of driving to there:

So, the dealer just open the top and found no valve adjustments issues, so they will go deeper...

Let's pray.

I'll keep updating.

Finally i just got a diagnose from main Honda dealer in north of Spain:

"Some time ago, the car overheated and that caused the problem."

They will replace the head gasket and as two valves are worn, I will replace all 16 and respective seals. The tensioner too. All the "hard" stuff (cylinders, rings, bore, cranks... are 'perfect')

That will be around 1700 Euro labor included ($2200) they said.

The question is: As I've never saw more than three bars in the temp gauge... how could the engine heated? I've been in traffic jams and so, but I've never driven recently in extreme ways so overheat can be explained. (Racing, circuit or so)

Las month I saw some antifreeze liquid leak from a valve site at the left part of the engine. Could it had been notified that? I didn't take it seriously as the liquid level was ok.

By the way, I told the mechanic to inspect all cooling system. I hope they find something...
